East of Chicago
About This Spot
East of Chicago welcomes you with the easygoing warmth of a familiar neighborhood spot where getting comfortable is part of the visit. Nestled just a short drive outside Leo, the restaurant hums with quiet energy—the kind that makes it clear this is a place where friends and families come not just for a quick meal, but to settle in and share moments over good food.
The pace here feels thoughtfully unhurried, a gentle invitation to linger over a pizza that’s anything but ordinary. Whether you find yourself drawn to the classic layered veggie options or intrigued by surprising house creations like the taco-inspired pizza, the flavors invite exploration without pretense. The atmosphere fosters a shared experience, where the buzz of conversations blends with the aroma of oven-baked warmth, creating a backdrop both lively and inviting.
For those with little ones in tow, this spot strikes a rare balance. The menu offers enough variety to satisfy finicky tastes while giving grown-ups plenty to savor, making it an easy choice for family lunches or casual dinners. The approachable buffet option on select days adds a comforting rhythm to the experience, where refills come not just from a tray but from shared smiles and familiar faces.
From the thoughtful blend of classic and creative toppings to the unexpected joy found in their peanut butter and jelly dessert pizza, East of Chicago carries a quiet sincerity in its food and service that many come back for. It’s the kind of place where a trip isn’t just about the meal but the human moments sprinkled throughout—the friendly nods, the laughter, and the simple pleasure of breaking bread together just a little differently.

Love this food and it's a must have if we are within 30 minutes of this location. Tower pizza for the win!

Showed up for buffet but found they didn’t have a buffet on Saturdays. Ordered a pizza to take home with a chef salad. I’ve never ordered from them before, I’m normally a Papa John’s fan but so glad I ordered from East of Chicago. It was the best pizza I’ve had in a long time.

Update edit; Here’s a rewritten version of the 5 star review I had posted previously due to today's experience. I have been coming to this location for years and have usually had a positive experience. However, today was extremely disappointing. From the moment I walked in, I was met with rudeness and condescension from the staff member helping me. She seemed irritated from the start, repeatedly asking me to repeat myself even though I was speaking clearly and asking reasonable questions about the menu. Unfortunately, instead of answering my questions, she became visibly frustrated. As a result, I placed an order for a pizza expecting a deep dish or pan style, but later learned—after receiving my order—that those options weren’t available with the size I selected. That’s something I tried to clarify when ordering, but she wouldn’t explain. When I asked for a remake of the pizza, she put in the request but then attempted to charge me again. I had already paid nearly $30 for a pizza I didn’t want, and was shocked to be asked to pay another $20 for a second one when the issue could’ve been avoided with better communication up front. To make matters worse, I was sitting in the dining room and was never informed when the pizza was ready. By the time I realized it and walked up, it had been sitting there so long it was barely warm and had gone soggy. When I asked to speak to a manager, she curtly told me she was the manager. I then asked for the owner’s contact information and was refused. Because I’ve had many good experiences here over the years, I’m not going to tell people to stop going. But I will say this: be sure to ask questions about the menu, double-check that your order is clearly understood, and wait up front for your food—because it likely won’t be brought to your table or announced. I still enjoy the pizza when it’s hot and fresh, but the customer service today was unacceptable. I've never been so upset and disappointed before. I hope the staff, especially those in management roles, receive proper training. If someone doesn’t enjoy working with the public, they probably shouldn’t be in customer service. I hope the owner responds to this review.

Got the loaded crust pepperoni and it exceeded my expectations! And of course I got the Peanut butter and jelly dessert pizza, it is BOMB DOT COM! Y'all need to come just for that!!! Wish there was an East Of Chicago Pizza closer, but I don't mind driving 35 min for this!

Great place to take the kids for lunch. I have a very picky 7 year old and she was able to find something she liked on the lunch buffet, and that is always a bonus. It has a large large lunch crowd, and the buffet was kept stocked fairly well, with several options to choose from.
